Cluttered Desk

A little while back I created a simple desk with a bunch of random things on it. I was originally going to put this up on the Unity asset store but they declined even after a few revisions. I'm assuming they don't like how the UVs are in some models but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, I've moved on from these models for new work.

I still like how it looks though. The whole idea was to create "clutter" models to populate rooms and environments within games, or make it look like somebody lived there. Perhaps I'll work on some more clutter models to see if they will be accepted to the store.

Low Poly Project

I've always really liked the low poly art style of modeling. I have finally decided to try my hand in it. I found that the modeling process isn't hard but laying out the UVs were the most difficult. Due to the random triangulation of the geometry there are no edge loops or anything to help unwrap the model. However, I eventually came up with a step-by-step process that solved that issue. It seems like a no-brainier in hindsight but all you really need to do is unwrap the model before triangulating it.

I set up a little scene inside Unity to see what it would look like in a game. It looks pretty good. The only thing I wish I had was a pro version of Unity so I could use global illumination to make the models blend into the environment better. Other than that, it was a really fun experiment. Hopefully, I can do more low poly modeling in the future.

Misc Update

I've been working on some various small projects since my last post. Just to keep things simple I'm going list everything.

Firstly, I'm designing a coin that will hopefully be 3D printed in silver one day.

Second, I'm getting more familiar with blender. I followed a tutorial from BlenderGuru on how to make a beer glass. I made a champagne glass and used and HDRI image to light the background for the first time.

I also uploaded a new video showcasing a project I worked on during college. This project was my first time trying the low-poly art style.

I uploaded my paper crane model to the Unity asset store to see what the process is like. It would be incredibly convenient to make some decent money that way.

Last, but not least, I have a new portfolio website! The link in the sidebar directs to it as well. That's everything! I have some other projects currently in the works. I'll post some info about them later.
