Creating a 3D Crystal Etching in Blender

A little while ago I decided I wanted to try creating those nifty crystal etches you find in those tourist stores. Turns out its surprisingly easy to make them in Blender. I made a 3D crystal of Suzanne.

I also made a tutorial on how to make it.

I posted the video to /r/blender and the user /u/giesse made a video showing an alternative way to put each bubble on a vertex. His technique seems to be more efficient than mine but it does add a stray bubble in the center of the etching. However, the bubbles are so small that its hard to notice it. I like his way better.

Quick Scene Setups

Lately I've been working on setting up scenes as quickly as possible in Blender. I made a hallway scene and a staircase scene. These two scenes took me about three or four hours each to create.

Overall these are really fun to make. I think I'll keep creating little scenes like this and eventually move to populating them with more details and textures.

Cluttered Desk

A little while back I created a simple desk with a bunch of random things on it. I was originally going to put this up on the Unity asset store but they declined even after a few revisions. I'm assuming they don't like how the UVs are in some models but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, I've moved on from these models for new work.

I still like how it looks though. The whole idea was to create "clutter" models to populate rooms and environments within games, or make it look like somebody lived there. Perhaps I'll work on some more clutter models to see if they will be accepted to the store.
